According to experts, anger could adversely affect the intellect, work efficiency, veins and intestines, digestive system, cholesterol levels and cause hypertension, heart and liver problems. In other words, anger has a toxic effect on the mind and body. Even the powers realized by penancewill bewiped out. It is a strong emotion, excited by a real or a fancied injury and involving a desire for retaliation. “A good man's anger lasts for a second, a middling's for three hours, a base one's for a day and night, and a great sinner's until death”.

Anger in Buddhism is defined as, "being unable to bear the object, or the intention to cause harm to the object". In Hinduism, anger is equated with sorrow as a form of unreciprocated desire. The objects of anger are perceived as an obstacle to the fulfillment of the desires of the angry person. PROPHET MUHAMMAD is attributed to have said, "Power resides not in being able to strike another, but in being able to keep the self under control when anger arises. The CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPAEDIA defines anger as "the desire of vengeance". Religions all over the world condemn anger as an undesirable quality.
